Still No Website in 2026?

Word of mouth is the best marketing there is, until it goes quiet. One honest page is enough to stop being invisible.

I still meet business owners in 2026 who are running with no website. Not an old one, not a bad one, none at all. Not a single page. Maybe there is a Facebook page that was last touched in 2019, or a business card they hand out at the servo. That is the whole online presence. And these are not hobbyists. A lot of them are flat out, booked for weeks, genuinely good at what they do.

So I ask them why, and I almost always get the same answer: we get enough work through word of mouth. And look, I get it. Word of mouth is the best marketing there is. When a mate tells a mate you did a cracking job, that lead is already halfway sold. If that is working for you, brilliant. I am not going to tell you it does not count.

The problem is not today, it is the day word of mouth goes quiet

Here is the catch nobody wants to think about. Word of mouth is not a switch you control. It is a tap that other people turn. It flows when your customers are chatting about you and it slows the second they stop, and you do not get a warning. A quiet season, a big client who moves away, a referral partner who retires, and suddenly the phone that never stopped is not ringing.

And that is exactly the moment a website would have been earning its keep. Because while your work travels by word of mouth, the person hearing your name does one thing before they call you. They Google you. If nothing comes up, or a dusty Facebook page comes up, a little bit of doubt creeps in. Meanwhile the competitor down the road who did put up a website shows up first, looks legit, and quietly wins the job that should have been yours. You did not lose on skill. You lost because you were invisible and they were not.

Why I started Omnisoft

This is actually the reason Omnisoft exists. I kept meeting these owners who are brilliant at their trade and completely invisible online, and it did my head in. Great electricians, landscapers, driving instructors, people who deliver every single time, losing work to someone with a slicker page and half the ability. That gap between how good they are and how they show up online is the thing I wanted to fix.

I am not anti word of mouth and I am not here to sell you a giant marketing machine you do not need. I just think a good business deserves to be found by the people already looking for it.

The fix is smaller than you think

Here is the good news, and it is the bit the web design world does not shout about. You do not need a big fancy site to fix this. It does not need to take three months to build. It does not need to cost you five grand. Most of the owners I meet do not need twelve pages and a blog, they need one honest page.

A single page that does three jobs: says who you are, says what you do and the area you cover, and gives people a dead simple way to reach you. Name, service, phone, a few real photos, a couple of reviews. That is enough to get found on Google and enough to make a stranger trust you. Everything past that is a nice to have, not a need to have.

Get that one page live and you have stopped being invisible. Now when your word of mouth sends someone to Google your name, they find you, they see you are the real deal, and they call. Your best marketing channel just got a safety net.

The honest bottom line

If you have been telling yourself you will sort the website out one day, this is your nudge. You do not need a big budget or a big timeline. You need one simple page that makes sure the work already coming your way does not slip to the bloke with a better website and worse hands.

If you want a hand getting that page up without the three month saga, that is exactly what we do at Omnisoft, done for you, local, and simple. Reach out and I will point you the right way, no hard sell.
