You Don't Need an Expensive Course to Start Using AI
The entry price for AI is far lower than the gurus want you to think. One subscription, a brainstorm, and one small thing to speed up.

I'm going to say something that won't make me popular with a certain corner of the internet: I'm fed up with AI gurus telling you that AI can just do everything for you and you can sit back and relax. It's a nice fantasy. It's also not how any of this actually works.
Here's what I believe. I like doing business with real, authentic businesses, the kind where there's a human behind it actually driving the thing. I don't care if they use AI to do the bulk of the heavy lifting. I use it constantly. What I care about is that there's still a real person on the other end who gives a damn. That's the standard I try to hold myself to in my own business, and it's the standard I look for when I hand over my money.
The problem with the guru pitch
The pattern is always the same. An AI guru builds an audience by promising that AI makes everything effortless, then sells you a course where they'll show you exactly how to do it all. So you buy in. And once you're inside, you discover the truth: it takes a lot more effort than they promised. The templates need tailoring. The tools need setting up. The "ten-minute" workflow takes an afternoon the first few times.
Then real life happens. You get busy running your business, you don't follow through on the course, and it quietly joins the pile of things you paid for and never finished. That's the part nobody advertises. That's how the gurus get rich and you don't.
What you actually need to get started
I'm here to tell you the entry price is far lower than they want you to think. You don't need an expensive course to get started. Realistically, you need one thing: a single AI tool subscription. That's it. From there, the most valuable thing AI does for you isn't some flashy automation, it's brainstorming. You use it to work out what you actually need to do, and then how AI can help you do it.
That reframe matters. Most people open an AI tool and freeze because they think they need to already know the answer. You don't. You use the tool to find the answer. Tell it your problem in plain English, the way you'd explain it to a mate, and let it help you map out the path.

A real example from my own week
Here's one I did recently, no course required. I wanted to get faster at my social media, so I sat down and brainstormed it with Claude, not "write my posts for me," but "help me think through what I want to say and how to speed this up." Out of that conversation I was able to hook up the Canva connector and generate social media posts straight from the ideas I already had about what I wanted to put out.
Notice what happened there. The ideas were mine. The point of view was mine. AI compressed the boring middle bit, the formatting, the production, the churn, so I could move faster without handing over the part that makes it me. That's the human-plus-AI balance I keep banging on about. Not AI instead of you. AI behind you.
The honest bottom line
You don't need to be rescued by a guru and you don't need to spend thousands to find out whether AI can help your business. Get one subscription. Start with a brainstorm. Pick one small thing to speed up. Keep your own voice on the front of it. You'll learn more in a week of actually doing that than in any course sitting unopened in your inbox.
And if you ever want to think any of this through with a real human, someone who'll tell you straight what's worth your time and what isn't, reach out. That's what I'm here for.
